The Heerlen Rooftop

This is an era of constant consumption, an era of extremely rapid communication and transportation, and an era of rebellion against tradition and the rise of popular culture. In this proposal, it is envisioned to realize a new nomadic lifestyle on the rooftops of the city of Heerlen, liberating people from the rigid urban life. In this concept, the temporary, disassemblable and portable nomadic architecture is imbued with the consciousness of technology and consumption, discarding the understanding of buildings as eternal monuments. By commodifying architectural space, the immobility of real estate is made mobile.

By setting up tents and combining them with balloons and other components, they float above the rooftops, creating various living and social scenarios. They stay in the city for a period of time and then move on to the next destination. Even if the city is composed of the instant time and environment, and even if the time is short, perhaps after a carnival or celebration, it will be dismantled and transported elsewhere.

The nomadic life on rooftops has brought vitality to the city of Heerlen. Residents can quickly switch from their daily life scenes to the romantic nomadic life on the rooftops, where they can stroll along the city skyline via sky bridges between buildings. Here, there are urban farms, restaurants, bars, cafes, fitness centers, day care centers and a series of other life and social scenes.
